¹⁰I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
  my whole being shall exult in my God;
 for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
  he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
 as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
  and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
¹¹For as the earth brings forth its shoots,
  and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,
 so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise
  to spring up before all the nations.

^62:1For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
  and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest,
 until her vindication shines out like the dawn,
  and her salvation like a burning torch.
²The nations shall see your vindication,
  and all the kings your glory;
 and you shall be called by a new name
  that the mouth of the Lord will give.
³You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord,
  and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.

¹⁰ Me deleito mucho en el Señor;
    me regocijo en mi Dios.
Porque él me vistió con ropas de salvación
    y me cubrió con el manto de la justicia.
Soy semejante a un novio que luce su diadema,
    o una novia adornada con sus joyas.
¹¹ Porque así como la tierra hace que broten los retoños,
    y el huerto hace que germinen las semillas,
así el Señor omnipotente hará que broten
    la justicia y la alabanza ante todas las naciones.

62 Por amor a Sión no guardaré silencio,
    por amor a Jerusalén no desmayaré,
hasta que su justicia resplandezca como la aurora,
    y como antorcha encendida su salvación.
² Las naciones verán tu justicia,
    y todos los reyes, tu gloria;
recibirás un nombre nuevo,
    que el Señor mismo te dará.
³ Serás en la mano del Señor como una corona esplendorosa,

  tempestuous wind, doing God’s will;

 ¹⁴The Lord has raised up strength for the people and praise for all faithful servants,
  the children of Israel, a people who are near the Lord. Hallelujah!

⁴When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, ⁵in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. ⁶And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” ⁷So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.

⁴ Pero, cuando se cumplió el plazo, Dios envió a su Hijo, nacido de una mujer, nacido bajo la ley, ⁵ para rescatar a los que estaban bajo la ley, a fin de que fuéramos adoptados como hijos. ⁶ Ustedes ya son hijos. ²²When the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, [Joseph and Mary] brought [Jesus] up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord ²³(as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male shall be designated as holy to the Lord”), ²⁴and they offered a sacrifice according to what is stated in the law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”
  ²⁵Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; this man was righteous and devout, looking forward to the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit rested on him. ²⁶It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. ²⁷Guided by the Spirit, Simeon came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what was customary under the law, ²⁸Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying,
 ²⁹“Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace,
  according to your word;
 ³⁰for my eyes have seen your salvation,
  ³¹which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
 ³²a light for revelation to the Gentiles
  and for glory to your people Israel.”
  ³³And the child’s father and mother were amazed at what was being said about him. ³⁴Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, “This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed ³⁵so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed—and a sword will pierce your own soul too.”
  ³⁶There was also a prophet, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, ³⁷then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped there with fasting and prayer night and day. ³⁸At that moment she came, and began to praise God and to speak about the child to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.
  ³⁹When they had finished everything required by the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. ⁴⁰The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.

²² Así mismo, cuando se cumplió el tiempo en que, según la ley de Moisés, ellos debían purificarse, José y María llevaron al niño a Jerusalén para presentarlo al Señor. ²³ Así cumplieron con lo que en la ley del Señor está escrito: «Todo varón primogénito será consagrado al Señor». ²⁴ También ofrecieron un sacrificio conforme a lo que la ley del Señor dice: «un par de tórtolas o dos pichones de paloma».

Cuando al niño Jesús lo llevaron sus padres para cumplir con la costumbre establecida por la ley, ²⁸ Simeón lo tomó en sus brazos y bendijo a Dios:

²⁹ «Según tu palabra, Soberano Señor,
    ya puedes despedir a tu siervo en paz.
³⁰ Porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación,
³¹     que has preparado a la vista de todos los pueblos:
³² luz que ilumina a las naciones
    y gloria de tu pueblo Israel».

³³ El padre y la madre del niño se quedaron maravillados por lo que se decía de él. ³⁴ Simeón les dio su bendición y le dijo a María, la madre de Jesús: «Este niño está destinado a causar la caída y el levantamiento de muchos en Israel, y a crear mucha oposición,^[e] 35 a fin de que se manifiesten las intenciones de muchos corazones. ³⁶ Había también una profetisa, Ana, hija de Penuel, de la tribu de Aser. Era muy anciana; casada de joven, había vivido con su esposo siete años, ³⁷ y luego permaneció viuda hasta la edad de ochenta y cuatro.^[f] Nunca salía del templo, sino que día y noche adoraba a Dios con ayunos y oraciones. ³⁸ Llegando en ese mismo momento, Ana dio gracias a Dios y comenzó a hablar del niño a todos los que esperaban la redención de Jerusalén.

¹Now when the king was settled in his house, and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, ²the king said to the prophet Nathan, “See now, I am living in a house of cedar, but the ark of God stays in a tent.” ³Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that you have in mind; for the Lord is with you.”
  ⁴But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan: ⁵Go and tell my servant David: Thus says the Lord: Are you the one to build me a house to live in? ⁶I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent and a tabernacle. ⁷Wherever I have moved about among all the people of Israel, did I ever speak a word with any of the tribal leaders of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?” ⁸Now therefore thus you shall say to my servant David: Thus says the Lord of hosts: I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep to be prince over my people Israel; ⁹and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. ¹⁰And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may live in their own place, and be disturbed no more; and evildoers shall afflict them no more, as formerly, ¹¹from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel; and I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover the Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you a house. ¹⁶Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me; your throne shall be established forever.

⁵ «Ve y dile a mi siervo David que así dice el Señor: “¿Serás tú acaso quien me construya una casa para que yo la habite? ⁶ Desde el día en que saqué a los israelitas de Egipto, y hasta el día de hoy, no he habitado en casa alguna, sino que he andado de acá para allá, en una tienda de campaña a manera de santuario. ⁷ Todo el tiempo que anduve con los israelitas, cuando mandé a sus gobernantes que pastorearan a mi pueblo Israel, ¿acaso le reclamé a alguno de ellos el no haberme construido una casa de cedro?”

⁸ »Pues bien, dile a mi siervo David que así dice el Señor Todopoderoso: “Yo te saqué del redil para que, en vez de cuidar ovejas, gobernaras a mi pueblo Israel. ⁹ Yo he estado contigo por dondequiera que has ido, y he aniquilado a todos tus enemigos. Y ahora voy a hacerte tan famoso como los más grandes de la tierra. ¹⁰ También voy a designar un lugar para mi pueblo Israel, y allí los plantaré para que puedan vivir sin sobresaltos. Sus malvados enemigos no volverán a humillarlos como lo han hecho desde el principio, ¹¹ desde el día en que nombré gobernantes sobre mi pueblo Israel. Y a ti te daré descanso de todos tus enemigos.

  ⁴⁷my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
 ⁴⁸for you, Lord, have looked with favor on your lowly servant.
  From this day all generations will call me blessed:
 ⁴⁹you, the Almighty, have done great things for me
  and holy is your name.
 ⁵⁰You have mercy on those who fear you,
  from generation to generation. 
 ⁵¹You have shown strength with your arm
  and scattered the proud in their conceit,
 ⁵²casting down the mighty from their thrones
  and lifting up the lowly.
 ⁵³You have filled the hungry with good things
  and sent the rich away empty.
 ⁵⁴You have come to the aid of your servant Israel,
  to remember the promise of mercy,
 ⁵⁵the promise made to our forbears,
  to Abraham and his children forever.

⁴⁶«Mi alma glorifica al Señor,

²⁵Now to God who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages ²⁶but is now disclosed, and through the prophetic writings is made known to all the Gentiles, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith—²⁷to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever! Amen.

²⁶In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, ²⁷to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. ²⁸And he came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” ²⁹But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. ³⁰The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. ³¹And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. ³²He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. ³³He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” ³⁴Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” ³⁵The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. ³⁶And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren. ³⁷For nothing will be impossible with God.” ³⁸Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

²⁶ A los seis meses, Dios envió al ángel Gabriel a Nazaret, pueblo de Galilea, ²⁷ a visitar a una joven virgen comprometida para casarse con un hombre que se llamaba José, descendiente de David. La virgen se llamaba María. ²⁸ El ángel se acercó a ella y le dijo:

—¡Te saludo, tú que has recibido el favor de Dios! El Señor está contigo.

²⁹ Ante estas palabras, María se perturbó, y se preguntaba qué podría significar este saludo.

³⁰ —No tengas miedo, María; Dios te ha concedido su favor —le dijo el ángel—. ³¹ Quedarás encinta y darás a luz un hijo, y le pondrás por nombre Jesús. ³² Él será un gran hombre, y lo llamarán Hijo del Altísimo. Dios el Señor le dará el trono de su padre David, ³³ y reinará sobre el pueblo de Jacob para siempre. Su reinado no tendrá fin.

³⁴ —¿Cómo podrá suceder esto —le preguntó María al ángel—, puesto que soy virgen?

³⁵ —El Espíritu Santo vendrá sobre ti, y el poder del Altísimo te cubrirá con su sombra. Así que al santo niño que va a nacer lo llamarán Hijo de Dios. ³⁶ También tu parienta Elisabet va a tener un hijo en su vejez; de hecho, la que decían que era estéril ya está en el sexto mes de embarazo. ³⁷ Porque para Dios no hay nada imposible.

³⁸ —Aquí tienes a la sierva del Señor —contestó María—. Que él haga conmigo como me has dicho.

Con esto, el ángel la dejó.

¹The spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
  because the Lord has anointed me;
 he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed,
  to bind up the brokenhearted,
 to proclaim liberty to the captives,
  and release to the prisoners;
²to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
  and the day of vengeance of our God;
  to comfort all who mourn;
³to provide for those who mourn in Zion—
  to give them a garland instead of ashes,
 the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
  the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit.
 They will be called oaks of righteousness,
  the planting of the Lord, to display his glory.
⁴They shall build up the ancient ruins,
  they shall raise up the former devastations;
 they shall repair the ruined cities,
  the devastations of many generations.

⁸For I the Lord love justice,
  I hate robbery and wrongdoing;
 I will faithfully give them their recompense,
  and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.
⁹Their descendants shall be known among the nations,
  and their offspring among the peoples;
 all who see them shall acknowledge
  that they are a people whom the Lord has blessed.

El Espíritu del Señor omnipotente está sobre mí,
    por cuanto me ha ungido
    para anunciar buenas nuevas a los pobres.
Me ha enviado a sanar los corazones heridos,
    a proclamar liberación a los cautivos
    y libertad a los prisioneros,
² a pregonar el año del favor del Señor
    y el día de la venganza de nuestro Dios,
a consolar a todos los que están de duelo,
³     y a confortar a los dolientes de Sión.
Me ha enviado a darles una corona
    en vez de cenizas,
aceite de alegría
    en vez de luto,
traje de fiesta
    en vez de espíritu de desaliento.
Serán llamados robles de justicia,
    plantío del Señor, para mostrar su gloria.
⁴ Reconstruirán las ruinas antiguas,
    y restaurarán los escombros de antaño;
repararán las ciudades en ruinas,
    y los escombros de muchas generaciones.

 ¹When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,
  then were we like those who dream.
 ²Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy.
  Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”
 ³The Lord has done great things for us,
  and we are glad indeed.
 ⁴Restore our fortunes, O Lord,
  like the watercourses of the Negeb. 
 ⁵Those who sowed with tears
  will reap with songs of joy.
 ⁶Those who go out weeping, carrying the seed,
  will come again with joy, shouldering their sheaves.

Cuando el Señor hizo volver a Sión a los cautivos,
    nos parecía estar soñando.
² Nuestra boca se llenó de risas;
    nuestra lengua, de canciones jubilosas.
Hasta los otros pueblos decían:
    «El Señor ha hecho grandes cosas por ellos».
³ Sí, el Señor ha hecho grandes cosas por nosotros,
    y eso nos llena de alegría.

⁴ Ahora, Señor, haz volver a nuestros cautivos
    como haces volver los arroyos del desierto.
⁵ El que con lágrimas siembra,
    con regocijo cosecha.
⁶ El que llorando esparce la semilla,
    cantando recoge sus gavillas.

¹⁶Rejoice always, ¹⁷pray without ceasing, ¹⁸give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. ¹⁹Do not quench the Spirit. ²⁰Do not despise the words of prophets, ²¹but test everything; hold fast to what is good; ²²abstain from every form of evil.
  ²³May the God of peace himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do this.

¹⁶ Estén siempre alegres, ¹⁷ oren sin cesar, ¹⁸ den gracias a Dios en toda situación, porque esta es su voluntad para ustedes en Cristo Jesús.

¹⁹ No apaguen el Espíritu, ²⁰ no desprecien las profecías, ²¹ sométanlo todo a prueba, aférrense a lo bueno, ²² eviten toda clase de mal.

²³ Que Dios mismo, el Dios de paz, los santifique por completo, y conserve todo su ser —espíritu, alma y cuerpo— irreprochable para la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. ²⁴ El que los llama es fiel, y así lo hará.

⁶There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. ⁷He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. ⁸He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light.

¹⁹This is the testimony given by John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” ²⁰He confessed and did not deny it, but confessed, “I am not the Messiah.” ²¹And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” He answered, “No.” ²²Then they said to him, “Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” ²³He said,
 “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness,
 ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ ”
as the prophet Isaiah said.
²⁴Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. ²⁵They asked him, “Why then are you baptizing if you are neither the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?” ²⁶John answered them, “I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not know, ²⁷the one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandal.” ²⁸This took place in Bethany across the Jordan where John was baptizing.

⁶ Vino un hombre llamado Juan. Dios lo envió ⁷ como testigo para dar testimonio de la luz, a fin de que por medio de él todos creyeran. ⁸ Juan no era la luz, sino que vino para dar testimonio de la luz.

¹⁹ Este es el testimonio de Juan cuando los judíos de Jerusalén enviaron sacerdotes y levitas a preguntarle quién era. ²⁰ No se negó a declararlo, sino que confesó con franqueza:

—Yo no soy el Cristo.

²¹ —¿Quién eres entonces? —le preguntaron—. ¿Acaso eres Elías?

—No lo soy.

—¿Eres el profeta?

—No lo soy.

²² —¿Entonces quién eres? ¡Tenemos que llevar una respuesta a los que nos enviaron! ¿Cómo te ves a ti mismo?

²³ —Yo soy la voz del que grita en el desierto: “Enderecen el camino del Señor” —respondió Juan, con las palabras del profeta Isaías.

²⁴ Algunos que habían sido enviados por los fariseos ²⁵ lo interrogaron:

—Pues, si no eres el Cristo ni Elías ni el profeta, ¿por qué bautizas?
