¹The hand of the Lord came upon me, and he brought me out by the spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. ²He led me all around them; there were very many lying in the valley, and they were very dry. ³He said to me, “Mortal, can these bones live?” I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” ⁴Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them: O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. ⁵Thus says the Lord God to these bones: I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. ⁶I will lay sinews on you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the Lord.”
  ⁷So I prophesied as I had been commanded; and as I prophesied, suddenly there was a noise, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. ⁸I looked, and there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them; but there was no breath in them. ⁹Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, mortal, and say to the breath: Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.” ¹⁰I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood on their feet, a vast multitude.
  ¹¹Then he said to me, “Mortal, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are cut off completely.’ ¹²Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: I am going to open your graves, and bring you up from your graves, O my people; and I will bring you back to the land of Israel. ¹³And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, and bring you up from your graves, O my people. ¹⁴I will put my spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you on your own soil; then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken and will act, says the Lord.”

La mano del Señor vino sobre mí, y su Espíritu me llevó y me colocó en medio de un valle que estaba lleno de huesos. ² Me hizo pasearme entre ellos, y pude observar que había muchísimos huesos en el valle, huesos que estaban completamente secos. ³ Y me dijo: «Hijo de hombre, ¿podrán revivir estos huesos?» Y yo le contesté: «Señor omnipotente, tú lo sabes». ⁴ Entonces me dijo: «Profetiza sobre estos huesos, y diles: “¡Huesos secos, escuchen la palabra del Señor! ⁵ Así dice el Señor omnipotente a estos huesos: ‘Yo les daré aliento de vida, y ustedes volverán a vivir. ⁶ Les pondré tendones, haré que les salga carne, y los cubriré de piel; les daré aliento de vida, y así revivirán. Entonces sabrán que yo soy el Señor’ ”». ⁷ Tal y como el Señor me lo había mandado, profeticé. Y mientras profetizaba, se escuchó un ruido que sacudió la tierra, y los huesos comenzaron a unirse entre sí. ⁸ Yo me fijé, y vi que en ellos aparecían tendones, y les salía carne y se recubrían de piel, ¡pero no tenían vida! ⁹ Entonces el Señor me dijo: «Profetiza, hijo de hombre; conjura al aliento de vida y dile: “Esto ordena el Señor omnipotente: ‘Ven de los cuatro vientos, y dales vida a estos huesos muertos para que revivan’ ”». ¹⁰ Yo profeticé, tal como el Señor me lo había ordenado, y el aliento de vida entró en ellos; entonces los huesos revivieron y se pusieron de pie. ¡Era un ejército numeroso! ¹¹ Luego me dijo: «Hijo de hombre, estos huesos son el pueblo de Israel. Ellos andan diciendo: “Nuestros huesos se han secado. Ya no tenemos esperanza. ¡Estamos perdidos!” ¹² Por eso, profetiza y adviérteles que así dice el Señor omnipotente: “Pueblo mío, abriré tus tumbas y te sacaré de ellas, y te haré regresar a la tierra de Israel. ¹³ Y, cuando haya abierto tus tumbas y te haya sacado de allí, entonces, pueblo mío, sabrás que yo soy el Señor. ¹⁴ Pondré en ti mi aliento de vida, y volverás a vivir. Y te estableceré en tu propia tierra. Entonces sabrás que yo, el Señor, lo he dicho, y lo cumpliré. Lo afirma el Señor”».

¹Out of the depths have I called to you, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice;
  let your ears consider well the voice of my supplication.
 ²If you, Lord, were to note what is done amiss,
  O Lord, who could stand?
 ³For there is forgiveness with you;
  therefore you shall be feared.
 ⁴I wait for the Lord; my soul waits for him;
  in his word is my hope. 
 ⁵My soul waits for the Lord, more than watchmen for the morning,
  more than watchmen for the morning.
 ⁶O Israel, wait for the Lord,
  for with the Lord there is mercy;
 ⁷with him there is plenteous redemption,
  and he shall redeem Israel from all their sins. 

A ti, Señor, elevo mi clamor

    más que los centinelas la mañana. Como esperan los centinelas la mañana,
⁷     así tú, Israel, espera al Señor.
Porque en él hay amor inagotable;
    en él hay plena redención.

⁶To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. ⁷For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law—indeed it cannot, ⁸and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
  ⁹But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. ¹⁰But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. ¹¹If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you.

⁶ La mentalidad pecaminosa es muerte, mientras que la mentalidad que proviene del Espíritu es vida y paz. ⁷ La mentalidad pecaminosa es enemiga de Dios, pues no se somete a la ley de Dios, ni es capaz de hacerlo. ⁸ Los que viven según la naturaleza pecaminosa no pueden agradar a Dios. ⁹ Sin embargo, ustedes no viven según la naturaleza pecaminosa, sino según el Espíritu, si es que el Espíritu de Dios vive en ustedes. Y, si alguno no tiene el Espíritu de Cristo, no es de Cristo. ¹⁰ Pero, si Cristo está en ustedes, el cuerpo está muerto a causa del pecado, pero el Espíritu que está en ustedes es vida a causa de la justicia. ¹¹ Y, si el Espíritu de aquel que levantó a Jesús de entre los muertos vive en ustedes, el mismo que levantó a Cristo de entre los muertos también dará vida a sus cuerpos mortales por medio de su Espíritu, que vive en ustedes.

¹Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. ²Mary was the one who anointed the Lord with perfume and wiped his feet with her hair; her brother Lazarus was ill. ³So the sisters sent a message to Jesus, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.” ⁴But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This illness does not lead to death; rather it is for God’s glory, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” ⁵Accordingly, though Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus, ⁶after having heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was.
⁷Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let us go to Judea again.” ⁸The disciples said to him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just now trying to stone you, and are you going there again?” ⁹Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of daylight? Those who walk during the day do not stumble, because they see the light of this world. ¹⁰But those who walk at night stumble, because the light is not in them.” ¹¹After saying this, he told them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going there to awaken him.” ¹²The disciples said to him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will be all right.” ¹³Jesus, however, had been speaking about his death, but they thought that he was referring merely to sleep. ¹⁴Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead. ¹⁵For your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.” ¹⁶Thomas, who was called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.” ¹⁷When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. ¹⁸Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, some two miles away, ¹⁹and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them about their brother. ²⁰When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, while Mary stayed at home. ²¹Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. ²²But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him.” ²³Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” ²⁴Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” ²⁵Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, ²⁶and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” ²⁷She said to him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world.” ²⁸When she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary, and told her privately, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” ²⁹And when she heard it, she got up quickly and went to him. ³⁰Now Jesus had not yet come to the village, but was still at the place where Martha had met him. ³¹The Jews who were with her in the house, consoling her, saw Mary get up quickly and go out. They followed her because they thought that she was going to the tomb to weep there. ³²When Mary came where Jesus was and saw him, she knelt at his feet and said to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” ³³When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, he was greatly disturbed in spirit and deeply moved. ³⁴He said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to him, “Lord, come and see.” ³⁵Jesus began to weep. ³⁶So the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” ³⁷But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?” ³⁸Then Jesus, again greatly disturbed, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. ³⁹Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, already there is a stench because he has been dead four days.” ⁴⁰Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?” ⁴¹So they took away the stone. And Jesus looked upward and said, “Father, I thank you for having heard me. ⁴²I knew that you always hear me, but I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe that you sent me.” ⁴³When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” ⁴⁴The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of cloth, and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.” ⁴⁵Many of the Jews therefore, who had come with Mary and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him.

Había un hombre enfermo llamado Lázaro, que era de Betania, el pueblo de María y Marta, sus hermanas. ² María era la misma que ungió con perfume al Señor, y le secó los pies con sus cabellos. ³ Las dos hermanas mandaron a decirle a Jesús: «Señor, tu amigo querido está enfermo». ⁴ Cuando Jesús oyó esto, dijo: «Esta enfermedad no terminará en muerte, sino que es para la gloria de Dios, para que por ella el Hijo de Dios sea glorificado». ⁵ Jesús amaba a Marta, a su hermana y a Lázaro. ⁶ A pesar de eso, cuando oyó que Lázaro estaba enfermo, se quedó dos días más donde se encontraba. ⁷ Después dijo a sus discípulos: —Volvamos a Judea. ⁸ —Rabí —objetaron ellos—, hace muy poco los judíos intentaron apedrearte, ¿y todavía quieres volver allá? ⁹ —¿Acaso el día no tiene doce horas? —respondió Jesús—. El que anda de día no tropieza, porque tiene la luz de este mundo. ¹⁰ Pero el que anda de noche sí tropieza, porque no tiene luz. ¹¹ Dicho esto, añadió: —Nuestro amigo Lázaro duerme, pero voy a despertarlo. ¹² —Señor —respondieron sus discípulos—, si duerme, es que va a recuperarse. ¹³ Jesús les hablaba de la muerte de Lázaro, pero sus discípulos pensaron que se refería al sueño natural. ¹⁴ Por eso les dijo claramente: —Lázaro ha muerto, ¹⁵ y por causa de ustedes me alegro de no haber estado allí, para que crean. Pero vamos a verlo. ¹⁶ Entonces Tomás, apodado el Gemelo, dijo a los otros discípulos: —Vayamos también nosotros, para morir con él. ¹⁷ A su llegada, Jesús se encontró con que Lázaro llevaba ya cuatro días en el sepulcro. ¹⁸ Betania estaba cerca de Jerusalén, como a tres kilómetros^[b] de distancia, ¹⁹ y muchos judíos habían ido a casa de Marta y de María, a darles el pésame por la muerte de su hermano. ²⁰ Cuando Marta supo que Jesús llegaba, fue a su encuentro; pero María se quedó en la casa. ²¹ —Señor —le dijo Marta a Jesús—, si hubieras estado aquí, mi hermano no habría muerto. ²² Pero yo sé que aun ahora Dios te dará todo lo que le pidas. ²³ —Tu hermano resucitará —le dijo Jesús. ²⁴ —Yo sé que resucitará en la resurrección, en el día final —respondió Marta. ²⁵ Entonces Jesús le dijo: —Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en mí vivirá, aunque muera; ²⁶ y todo el que vive y cree en mí no morirá jamás. ¿Crees esto? ²⁷ —Sí, Señor; yo creo que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, el que había de venir al mundo. ²⁸ Dicho esto, Marta regresó a la casa y, llamando a su hermana María, le dijo en privado: —El Maestro está aquí y te llama. ²⁹ Cuando María oyó esto, se levantó rápidamente y fue a su encuentro. ³⁰ Jesús aún no había entrado en el pueblo, sino que todavía estaba en el lugar donde Marta se había encontrado con él. ³¹ Los judíos que habían estado con María en la casa, dándole el pésame, al ver que se había levantado y había salido de prisa, la siguieron, pensando que iba al sepulcro a llorar. ³² Cuando María llegó adonde estaba Jesús y lo vio, se arrojó a sus pies y le dijo: —Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, mi hermano no habría muerto. ³³ Al ver llorar a María y a los judíos que la habían acompañado, Jesús se turbó y se conmovió profundamente. ³⁴ —¿Dónde lo han puesto? —preguntó. —Ven a verlo, Señor —le respondieron. ³⁵ Jesús lloró. ³⁶ —¡Miren cuánto lo quería! —dijeron los judíos ³⁷ Pero algunos de ellos comentaban: —Este, que le abrió los ojos al ciego, ¿no podría haber impedido que Lázaro muriera? ³⁸ Conmovido una vez más, Jesús se acercó al sepulcro. Era una cueva cuya entrada estaba tapada con una piedra. ³⁹ —Quiten la piedra —ordenó Jesús. Marta, la hermana del difunto, objetó: —Señor, ya debe oler mal, pues lleva cuatro días allí. ⁴⁰ —¿No te dije que si crees verás la gloria de Dios? —le contestó Jesús. ⁴¹ Entonces quitaron la piedra. Jesús, alzando la vista, dijo: —Padre, te doy gracias porque me has escuchado. ⁴² Ya sabía yo que siempre me escuchas, pero lo dije por la gente que está aquí presente, para que crean que tú me enviaste. ⁴³ Dicho esto, gritó con todas sus fuerzas: —¡Lázaro, sal fuera! ⁴⁴ El muerto salió, con vendas en las manos y en los pies, y el rostro cubierto con un sudario. —Quítenle las vendas y dejen que se vaya —les dijo Jesús. ⁴⁵ Muchos de los judíos que habían ido a ver a María y que habían presenciado lo hecho por Jesús creyeron en él.
