^14aPeter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed [the crowd], ²²“You that are Israelites, listen to what I have to say: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with deeds of power, wonders, and signs that God did through him among you, as you yourselves know—²³this man, handed over to you according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law. ²⁴But God raised him up, having freed him from death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power. ²⁵For David says concerning him,
 ‘I saw the Lord always before me,
  for he is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken;
 ²⁶therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;
  moreover my flesh will live in hope.
 ²⁷For you will not abandon my soul to Hades,
  or let your Holy One experience corruption.
 ²⁸You have made known to me the ways of life;
  you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’
  ²⁹“Fellow Israelites, I may say to you confidently of our ancestor David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. ³⁰Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would put one of his descendants on his throne. ³¹Foreseeing this, David spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, saying,
 ‘He was not abandoned to Hades,
  nor did his flesh experience corruption.’
³²This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses.”

¹⁴ Entonces Pedro, con los once, se puso de pie y dijo a voz en cuello: ²² »Pueblo de Israel, escuchen esto: Jesús de Nazaret fue un hombre acreditado por Dios ante ustedes con milagros, señales y prodigios, los cuales realizó Dios entre ustedes por medio de él, como bien lo saben. ²³ Este fue entregado según el determinado propósito y el previo conocimiento de Dios; y, por medio de gente malvada, ustedes lo mataron, clavándolo en la cruz. ²⁴ Sin embargo, Dios lo resucitó, librándolo de las angustias de la muerte, porque era imposible que la muerte lo mantuviera bajo su dominio. ²⁵ En efecto, David dijo de él:

»“Veía yo al Señor siempre delante de mí,
    porque él está a mi derecha
    para que no caiga.
²⁶ Por eso mi corazón se alegra, y canta con gozo mi lengua;
    mi cuerpo también vivirá en esperanza.
²⁷ No dejarás que mi vida termine en el sepulcro;
    no permitirás que tu santo sufra corrupción.
²⁸ Me has dado a conocer los caminos de la vida;
    me llenarás de alegría en tu presencia”.

²⁹ »Hermanos, permítanme hablarles con franqueza acerca del patriarca David, que murió y fue sepultado, y cuyo sepulcro está entre nosotros hasta el día de hoy. ³⁰ Era profeta y sabía que Dios le había prometido bajo juramento poner en el trono a uno de sus descendientes. ³¹ Fue así como previó lo que iba a suceder. Refiriéndose a la resurrección del Mesías, afirmó que Dios no dejaría que su vida terminara en el sepulcro, ni que su fin fuera la corrupción. ³² A este Jesús, Dios lo resucitó, y de ello todos nosotros somos testigos.

¹Protect me, O God, for I take refuge in you;
  I have said to the Lord, “You are my Lord, my good above all other.”
 ²All my delight is in the godly that are in the land,
  upon those who are noble among the people.
 ³But those who run after other gods
  shall have their troubles multiplied.
 ⁴I will not pour out drink offerings to such gods,
  never take their names upon my lips. 
 ⁵O Lord, you are my portion and my cup;
  it is you who uphold my lot.
 ⁶My boundaries enclose a pleasant land;
  indeed, I have a rich inheritance.
 ⁷I will bless the Lord who gives me counsel;
  my heart teaches me night after night.
 ⁸I have set the Lord always before me;
  because God is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. 
 ⁹My heart, therefore, is glad, and my spirit rejoices;
  my body also shall rest in hope.
 ¹⁰For you will not abandon me to the grave,
  nor let your holy one see the pit.
 ¹¹You will show me the path of life;
  in your presence there is fullness of joy, and in your right hand are pleasures forevermore. 

Cuídame, oh Dios, porque en ti busco refugio.

² Yo le he dicho al Señor: «Mi Señor eres tú.
    Fuera de ti, no poseo bien alguno».
³ En cuanto a los santos que están en la tierra,
    son los gloriosos en quienes está toda mi delicia.
⁴ Aumentarán los dolores
    de los que corren tras otros dioses.
¡Jamás derramaré sus sangrientas libaciones,
    ni con mis labios pronunciaré sus nombres!

⁵ Tú, Señor, eres mi porción y mi copa;
    eres tú quien ha afirmado mi suerte.
⁶ Bellos lugares me han tocado en suerte;
    ¡preciosa herencia me ha correspondido!

⁷ Bendeciré al Señor, que me aconseja;
    aun de noche me reprende mi conciencia.
⁸ Siempre tengo presente al Señor;
    con él a mi derecha, nada me hará caer.

⁹ Por eso mi corazón se alegra,
    y se regocijan mis entrañas;
    todo mi ser se llena de confianza.
¹⁰ No dejarás que mi vida termine en el sepulcro;
    no permitirás que sufra corrupción tu siervo fiel.
¹¹ Me has dado a conocer la senda de la vida;
    me llenarás de alegría en tu presencia,
    y de dicha eterna a tu derecha.

³Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, ⁵who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. ⁶In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, ⁷so that the genuineness of your faith—being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. ⁸Although you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, ⁹for you are receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

³ ¡Alabado sea Dios, Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo! Por su gran misericordia, nos ha hecho nacer de nuevo mediante la resurrección de Jesucristo, para que tengamos una esperanza viva ⁴ y recibamos una herencia indestructible, incontaminada e inmarchitable. Tal herencia está reservada en el cielo para ustedes, ⁵ a quienes el poder de Dios protege mediante la fe hasta que llegue la salvación que se ha de revelar en los últimos tiempos. ⁶ Esto es para ustedes motivo de gran alegría, a pesar de que hasta ahora han tenido que sufrir diversas pruebas por un tiempo. ⁷ El oro, aunque perecedero, se acrisola al fuego. Así también la fe de ustedes, que vale mucho más que el oro, al ser acrisolada por las pruebas demostrará que es digna de aprobación, gloria y honor cuando Jesucristo se revele. ⁸ Ustedes lo aman a pesar de no haberlo visto; y, aunque no lo ven ahora, creen en él y se alegran con un gozo indescriptible y glorioso, ⁹ pues están obteniendo la meta de su fe, que es su salvación.

¹⁹When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” ²⁰After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. ²¹Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” ²²When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. ²³If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

²⁴But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. ²⁵So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”
²⁶A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” ²⁷Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” ²⁸Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” ²⁹Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”

³⁰Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. ³¹But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

¹⁹ Al atardecer de aquel primer día de la semana, estando reunidos los discípulos a puerta cerrada por temor a los judíos, entró Jesús y, poniéndose en medio de ellos, los saludó.

—¡La paz sea con ustedes!

²⁰ Dicho esto, les mostró las manos y el costado. Al ver al Señor, los discípulos se alegraron.

²¹ —¡La paz sea con ustedes! —repitió Jesús—. Como el Padre me envió a mí, así yo los envío a ustedes.

²² Acto seguido, sopló sobre ellos y les dijo:

—Reciban el Espíritu Santo. ²³ A quienes les perdonen sus pecados, les serán perdonados; a quienes no se los perdonen, no les serán perdonados.

²⁴ Tomás, al que apodaban el Gemelo, y que era uno de los doce, no estaba con los discípulos cuando llegó Jesús. ²⁵ Así que los otros discípulos le dijeron:

—¡Hemos visto al Señor!

—Mientras no vea yo la marca de los clavos en sus manos, y meta mi dedo en las marcas y mi mano en su costado, no lo creeré —repuso Tomás.

²⁶ Una semana más tarde estaban los discípulos de nuevo en la casa, y Tomás estaba con ellos. Aunque las puertas estaban cerradas, Jesús entró y, poniéndose en medio de ellos, los saludó.

—¡La paz sea con ustedes!

²⁷ Luego le dijo a Tomás:

—Pon tu dedo aquí y mira mis manos. Acerca tu mano y métela en mi costado. Y no seas incrédulo, sino hombre de fe.

²⁸ —¡Señor mío y Dios mío! —exclamó Tomás.

²⁹ —Porque me has visto, has creído —le dijo Jesús—; dichosos los que no han visto y sin embargo creen.

³⁰ Jesús hizo muchas otras señales milagrosas en presencia de sus discípulos, las cuales no están registradas en este libro. ³¹ Pero estas se han escrito para que ustedes crean que Jesús es el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, y para que al creer en su nombre tengan vida.
