²But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah,
  who are one of the little clans of Judah,
 from you shall come forth for me
  one who is to rule in Israel,
 whose origin is from of old,
  from ancient days.
 ³Therefore he shall give them up until the time
  when she who is in labor has brought forth;
 then the rest of his kindred shall return
  to the people of Israel.
 ⁴And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of the Lord,
  in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.
 And they shall live secure, for now he shall be great
  to the ends of the earth;
 ^5aand he shall be the one of peace.

² Pero de ti, Belén Efrata,
    pequeña entre los clanes de Judá,
    saldrá el que gobernará a Israel;
sus orígenes se remontan hasta la antigüedad,
    hasta tiempos inmemoriales.
³ Por eso Dios los entregará al enemigo
    hasta que tenga su hijo la que va a ser madre,
y vuelva junto al pueblo de Israel
    el resto de sus hermanos.
⁴ Pero surgirá uno para pastorearlos
    con el poder del Señor,
    con la majestad del nombre del Señor su Dios.
Vivirán seguros, porque él dominará
    hasta los confines de la tierra.
⁵     ¡Él traerá la paz!
Si Asiria llegara a invadir nuestro país
    para pisotear nuestras fortalezas,
le haremos frente con siete pastores,
    y aun con ocho líderes del pueblo;

^46bMy soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
  ⁴⁷my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
 ⁴⁸for you, Lord, have looked with favor on your lowly servant.
  From this day all generations will call me blessed:
 ⁴⁹you, the Almighty, have done great things for me
  and holy is your name.
 ⁵⁰You have mercy on those who fear you,
  from generation to generation. 
 ⁵¹You have shown strength with your arm
  and scattered the proud in their conceit,
 ⁵²casting down the mighty from their thrones
  and lifting up the lowly.
 ⁵³You have filled the hungry  with good things
  and sent the rich away empty.
 ⁵⁴You have come to the aid of your servant Israel,
  to remember the promise of mercy,
 ⁵⁵the promise made to our forebears,
  to Abraham and his children forever. 

⁴⁶ «Mi alma glorifica al Señor,
⁴⁷     y mi espíritu se regocija en Dios mi Salvador,
⁴⁸ porque se ha dignado fijarse en su humilde sierva.
Desde ahora me llamarán dichosa todas las generaciones,
⁴⁹     porque el Poderoso ha hecho grandes cosas por mí.
    ¡Santo es su nombre!
⁵⁰ De generación en generación
    se extiende su misericordia a los que le temen.
⁵¹ Hizo proezas con su brazo;
    desbarató las intrigas de los soberbios.
⁵² De sus tronos derrocó a los poderosos,
    mientras que ha exaltado a los humildes.
⁵³ A los hambrientos los colmó de bienes,
    y a los ricos los despidió con las manos vacías.
⁵⁴Acudió en ayuda de su siervo Israel
    y, ⁵⁵ cumpliendo su promesa a nuestros padres,
mostró su misericordia a Abraham
    y a su descendencia para siempre».

⁵Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said,
 “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired,
  but a body you have prepared for me;
 ⁶in burnt offerings and sin offerings
  you have taken no pleasure.
 ⁷Then I said, ‘See, God, I have come to do your will, O God’
  (in the scroll of the book it is written of me).”
⁸When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), ⁹then he added, “See, I have come to do your will.” He abolishes the first in order to establish the second. ¹⁰And it is by God’s will that we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

⁵ Por eso, al entrar en el mundo, Cristo dijo:

«A ti no te complacen sacrificios ni ofrendas;
    en su lugar, me preparaste un cuerpo;
⁶ no te agradaron ni holocaustos
    ni sacrificios por el pecado.
⁷ Por eso dije: “Aquí me tienes
    —como el libro dice de mí—.
He venido, oh Dios, a hacer tu voluntad”».

⁸ Primero dijo: «Sacrificios y ofrendas, holocaustos y expiaciones no te complacen ni fueron de tu agrado» (a pesar de que la ley exigía que se ofrecieran). ⁹ Luego añadió: «Aquí me tienes: He venido a hacer tu voluntad». Así quitó lo primero para establecer lo segundo. ¹⁰ Y en virtud de esa voluntad somos santificados mediante el sacrificio del cuerpo de Jesucristo, ofrecido una vez y para siempre.

³⁹In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, ⁴⁰where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. ⁴¹When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit ⁴²and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. ⁴³And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? ⁴⁴For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. ⁴⁵And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.” [
  ⁴⁶And Mary said,
 “My soul magnifies the Lord,
  ⁴⁷and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
 ⁴⁸for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.
  Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
 ⁴⁹for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
  and holy is his name.
 ⁵⁰His mercy is for those who fear him
  from generation to generation.
 ⁵¹He has shown strength with his arm;
  he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
 ⁵²He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
  and lifted up the lowly;
 ⁵³he has filled the hungry with good things,
  and sent the rich away empty.
 ⁵⁴He has helped his servant Israel,
  in remembrance of his mercy,
 ⁵⁵according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
  to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

³⁹ A los pocos días María emprendió viaje y se fue de prisa a un pueblo en la región montañosa de Judea. ⁴⁰ Al llegar, entró en casa de Zacarías y saludó a Elisabet. ⁴¹ Tan pronto como Elisabet oyó el saludo de María, la criatura saltó en su vientre. Entonces Elisabet, llena del Espíritu Santo, ⁴² exclamó:

—¡Bendita tú entre las mujeres, y bendito el hijo que darás a luz! ⁴³ Pero ¿cómo es esto, que la madre de mi Señor venga a verme? ⁴⁴ Te digo que tan pronto como llegó a mis oídos la voz de tu saludo, saltó de alegría la criatura que llevo en el vientre. ⁴⁵ ¡Dichosa tú que has creído, porque lo que el Señor te ha dicho se cumplirá!

⁴⁶ Entonces dijo María:

«Mi alma glorifica al Señor,
⁴⁷     y mi espíritu se regocija en Dios mi Salvador,
