⁷O Lord, you have enticed me,
  and I was enticed;
 you have overpowered me,
  and you have prevailed.
 I have become a laughingstock all day long;
  everyone mocks me.
⁸For whenever I speak, I must cry out,
  I must shout, “Violence and destruction!”
 For the word of the Lord has become for me
  a reproach and derision all day long.
⁹If I say, “I will not mention him,
  or speak any more in his name,”
 then within me there is something like a burning fire
  shut up in my bones;
 I am weary with holding it in,
  and I cannot.
¹⁰For I hear many whispering:
  “Terror is all around!
 Denounce him! Let us denounce him!”
  All my close friends
  are watching for me to stumble.
 “Perhaps he can be enticed,
  and we can prevail against him,
  and take our revenge on him.”
¹¹But the Lord is with me like a dread warrior;
  therefore my persecutors will stumble,
  and they will not prevail.
 They will be greatly shamed,
  for they will not succeed.
 Their eternal dishonor
  will never be forgotten.
¹²O Lord of hosts, you test the righteous,
  you see the heart and the mind;
 let me see your retribution upon them,
  for to you I have committed my cause.

¹³Sing to the Lord;
  praise the Lord!
 For he has delivered the life of the needy
  from the hands of evildoers.

⁷ ¡Me sedujiste, Señor,
    y yo me dejé seducir!
Fuiste más fuerte que yo,
    y me venciste.
Todo el mundo se burla de mí;
    se ríen de mí todo el tiempo.
⁸ Cada vez que hablo, es para gritar:
    «¡Violencia! ¡Violencia!»
Por eso la palabra del Señor
    no deja de ser para mí
    un oprobio y una burla.
⁹ Si digo: «No me acordaré más de él,
    ni hablaré más en su nombre»,
entonces su palabra en mi interior
    se vuelve un fuego ardiente
    que me cala hasta los huesos.
He hecho todo lo posible por contenerla,
    pero ya no puedo más.
¹⁰ Escucho a muchos decir con sorna:
    «¡Hay terror por todas partes!»
y hasta agregan: «¡Denúncienlo!
    ¡Vamos a denunciarlo!»
Aun mis mejores amigos
    esperan que tropiece.
También dicen: «Quizá lo podamos seducir.
    Entonces lo venceremos
    y nos vengaremos de él».

¹¹ Pero el Señor está conmigo
    como un guerrero poderoso;
por eso los que me persiguen
    caerán y no podrán prevalecer,
    fracasarán y quedarán avergonzados.
Eterna será su deshonra;
    jamás será olvidada.
¹² Tú, Señor Todopoderoso,
    que examinas al justo,
    que sondeas el corazón y la mente,
hazme ver tu venganza sobre ellos,
    pues a ti he encomendado mi causa.

¹³ ¡Canten al Señor, alábenlo!
    Él salva a los pobres
    del poder de los malvados.

⁷Surely, for your sake I have suffered reproach,
  and shame has covered my face.
 ⁸I have become a stranger to my own kindred,
  an alien to my mother’s children.
 ⁹Zeal for your house has eaten me up;
  the scorn of those who scorn you has fallen upon me.
 ¹⁰I humbled myself with fasting,
  but that was turned to my reproach. 
¹¹I put on sackcloth also,
  and became a by-word among them.
 ¹²Those who sit at the gate murmur against me,
  and the drunkards make songs about me.
 ¹³But as for me, this is my prayer to you, at the time you have set, O Lord:
  “In your great mercy, O God, answer me with your unfailing help.
 ¹⁴Save me from the mire; do not | let me sink;
  let me be rescued from those who hate me and out of the deep waters. 
 ¹⁵Let not the torrent of waters wash over me, neither let the deep swalow me up;
  do not let the pit shut its mouth upon me.
  ¹⁶Answer me, O Lord, for your love is kind;
  in your great compassion, turn to me.
 ¹⁷Hide not your face from your servant;
  be swift and answer me, for I am in distress.
 ¹⁸Draw near to me and redeem me;
  because of my enemies deliver me

⁷ Por ti yo he sufrido insultos;
    mi rostro se ha cubierto de ignominia.
⁸ Soy como un extraño para mis hermanos;
    soy un extranjero para los hijos de mi madre.
⁹ El celo por tu casa me consume;
    sobre mí han recaído
    los insultos de tus detractores.
¹⁰ Cuando lloro y ayuno,
    tengo que soportar sus ofensas;
¹¹ cuando me visto de luto,
    soy objeto de burlas.
¹² Los que se sientan a la puerta murmuran contra mí;
    los borrachos me dedican parodias.

¹³ Pero yo, Señor, te imploro
    en el tiempo de tu buena voluntad.
Por tu gran amor, oh Dios, respóndeme;
    por tu fidelidad, sálvame.
¹⁴ Sácame del fango;
    no permitas que me hunda.
Líbrame de los que me odian,
    y de las aguas profundas.
¹⁵ No dejes que me arrastre la corriente;
    no permitas que me trague el abismo,
    ni que el foso cierre sus fauces sobre mí.
¹⁶ Respóndeme, Señor, por tu bondad y tu amor;
    por tu gran compasión, vuélvete a mí.
¹⁷ No escondas tu rostro de este siervo tuyo;
    respóndeme pronto, que estoy angustiado.
¹⁸ Ven a mi lado, y rescátame;
    redímeme, por causa de mis enemigos.

^1bShould we continue in sin in order that grace may abound? ²By no means! How can we who died to sin go on living in it? ³Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? ⁴Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
  ⁵For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. ⁶We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. ⁷For whoever has died is freed from sin. ⁸But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. ⁹We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. ¹⁰The death he died, he died to sin, once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. ¹¹So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

¿Vamos a persistir en el pecado para que la gracia abunde? ² ¡De ninguna manera! Nosotros, que hemos muerto al pecado, ¿cómo podemos seguir viviendo en él? ³ ¿Acaso no saben ustedes que todos los que fuimos bautizados para unirnos con Cristo Jesús en realidad fuimos bautizados para participar en su muerte? ⁴ Por tanto, mediante el bautismo fuimos sepultados con él en su muerte, a fin de que, así como Cristo resucitó por el poder del Padre, también nosotros llevemos una vida nueva.

⁵ En efecto, si hemos estado unidos con él en su muerte, sin duda también estaremos unidos con él en su resurrección. ⁶ Sabemos que nuestra vieja naturaleza fue crucificada con él para que nuestro cuerpo pecaminoso perdiera su poder, de modo que ya no siguiéramos siendo esclavos del pecado; ⁷ porque el que muere queda liberado del pecado.

⁸ Ahora bien, si hemos muerto con Cristo, confiamos que también viviremos con él. ⁹ Pues sabemos que Cristo, por haber sido levantado de entre los muertos, ya no puede volver a morir; la muerte ya no tiene dominio sobre él. ¹⁰ En cuanto a su muerte, murió al pecado una vez y para siempre; en cuanto a su vida, vive para Dios.

¹¹ De la misma manera, también ustedes considérense muertos al pecado, pero vivos para Dios en Cristo Jesús.

[Jesus said to the twelve:] ²⁴“A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a slave above the master; ²⁵it is enough for the disciple to be like the teacher, and the slave like the master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household!
  ²⁶“So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. ²⁷What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops. ²⁸Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. ²⁹Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. ³⁰And even the hairs of your head are all counted. ³¹So do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.
  ³²“Everyone therefore who acknowledges me before others, I also will acknowledge before my Father in heaven; ³³but whoever denies me before others, I also will deny before my Father in heaven.
  ³⁴“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
 ³⁵For I have come to set a man against his father,
 and a daughter against her mother,
 and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
 ³⁶and one’s foes will be members of one’s own household.
³⁷Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; ³⁸and whoever does not take up the cross and follow me is not worthy of me. ³⁹Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.”

²⁴ »El discípulo no es superior a su maestro, ni el siervo superior a su amo. ²⁵ Basta con que el discípulo sea como su maestro, y el siervo como su amo. Si al jefe de la casa lo han llamado Beelzebú, ¡cuánto más a los de su familia!

²⁶ »Así que no les tengan miedo; porque no hay nada encubierto que no llegue a revelarse, ni nada escondido que no llegue a conocerse. ²⁷ Lo que les digo en la oscuridad, díganlo ustedes a plena luz; lo que se les susurra al oído, proclámenlo desde las azoteas. ²⁸ No teman a los que matan el cuerpo, pero no pueden matar el alma. Teman más bien al que puede destruir alma y cuerpo en el infierno. ²⁹ ¿No se venden dos gorriones por una monedita? Sin embargo, ni uno de ellos caerá a tierra sin que lo permita el Padre; ³⁰ y él les tiene contados a ustedes aun los cabellos de la cabeza. ³¹ Así que no tengan miedo; ustedes valen más que muchos gorriones.

³² »A cualquiera que me reconozca delante de los demás, yo también lo reconoceré delante de mi Padre que está en el cielo. ³³ Pero a cualquiera que me desconozca delante de los demás, yo también lo desconoceré delante de mi Padre que está en el cielo.

³⁴ »No crean que he venido a traer paz a la tierra. No vine a traer paz, sino espada. ³⁵ Porque he venido a poner en conflicto

»“al hombre contra su padre,
    a la hija contra su madre,
    a la nuera contra su suegra;
³⁶ los enemigos de cada cual
    serán los de su propia familia”.

³⁷ »El que quiere a su padre o a su madre más que a mí no es digno de mí; el que quiere a su hijo o a su hija más que a mí no es digno de mí; ³⁸ y el que no toma su cruz y me sigue no es digno de mí. ³⁹ El que se aferre a su propia vida, la perderá, y el que renuncie a su propia vida por mi causa, la encontrará.
