⁵The prophet Jeremiah spoke to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the Lord; ⁶and the prophet Jeremiah said, “Amen! May the Lord do so; may the Lord fulfill the words that you have prophesied, and bring back to this place from Babylon the vessels of the house of the Lord, and all the exiles. ⁷But listen now to this word that I speak in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people. ⁸The prophets who preceded you and me from ancient times prophesied war, famine, and pestilence against many countries and great kingdoms. ⁹As for the prophet who prophesies peace, when the word of that prophet comes true, then it will be known that the Lord has truly sent the prophet.”

⁵ En presencia de los sacerdotes y de todo el pueblo que estaba en la casa del Señor, el profeta Jeremías le respondió al profeta Jananías:

⁶ —¡Amén! Que así lo haga el Señor. Que cumpla el Señor las palabras que has profetizado. Que devuelva a este lugar los utensilios de la casa del Señor y a todos los que fueron deportados a Babilonia. ⁷ Pero presta atención a lo que voy a decirles a ti y a todo el pueblo: ⁸ Los profetas que nos han precedido profetizaron guerra, hambre y pestilencia contra numerosas naciones y grandes reinos. ⁹ Pero a un profeta que anuncia paz se le reconoce como profeta verdaderamente enviado por el Señor solo si se cumplen sus palabras.

 ¹Your love, O Lord, forever will I sing;
  from age to age my mouth will proclaim your faithfulness.
 ²For I am persuaded that your steadfast love is established forever;
  you have set your faithfulness firmly in the heavens.
 ³“I have made a covenant with my chosen one;
  I have sworn an oath to David my servant:
 ⁴‘I will establish your line forever,
  and preserve your throne for all generations.’ ” 
 ¹⁵Happy are the people who know the festal shout!
  They walk, O Lord, in the light of your presence.
 ¹⁶They rejoice daily in your name;
  they are jubilant in your righteousness.
 ¹⁷For you are the glory of their strength,
  and by your favor our might is exalted.
 ¹⁸Truly, our shield belongs to the Lord;
  our king to the Holy One of Israel.

Oh Señor, por siempre cantaré
    la grandeza de tu amor;
por todas las generaciones
    proclamará mi boca tu fidelidad.
² Declararé que tu amor permanece firme para siempre,
    que has afirmado en el cielo tu fidelidad.

³ Dijiste: «He hecho un pacto con mi escogido;
    le he jurado a David mi siervo:
⁴ “Estableceré tu dinastía para siempre,
    y afirmaré tu trono por todas las generaciones”».

¹⁵ Dichosos los que saben aclamarte, Señor,
    y caminan a la luz de tu presencia;
¹⁶ los que todo el día se alegran en tu nombre
    y se regocijan en tu justicia.
¹⁷ Porque tú eres su gloria y su poder;
    por tu buena voluntad aumentas nuestra fuerza.
¹⁸ Tú, Señor, eres nuestro escudo;
    tú, Santo de Israel, eres nuestro rey.

¹²Do not let sin exercise dominion in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. ¹³No longer present your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness. ¹⁴For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

¹⁵What then? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! ¹⁶Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? ¹⁷But thanks be to God that you, having once been slaves of sin, have become obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were entrusted, ¹⁸and that you, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. ¹⁹I am speaking in human terms because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness for sanctification.
²⁰When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. ²¹So what advantage did you then get from the things of which you now are ashamed? The end of those things is death. ²²But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life. ²³For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹² Por lo tanto, no permitan ustedes que el pecado reine en su cuerpo mortal, ni obedezcan a sus malos deseos. ¹³ No ofrezcan los miembros de su cuerpo al pecado como instrumentos de injusticia; al contrario, ofrézcanse más bien a Dios como quienes han vuelto de la muerte a la vida, presentando los miembros de su cuerpo como instrumentos de justicia. ¹⁴ Así el pecado no tendrá dominio sobre ustedes, porque ya no están bajo la ley, sino bajo la gracia.

¹⁵ Entonces, ¿qué? ¿Vamos a pecar porque no estamos ya bajo la ley, sino bajo la gracia? ¡De ninguna manera! ¹⁶ ¿Acaso no saben ustedes que, cuando se entregan a alguien para obedecerlo, son esclavos de aquel a quien obedecen? Claro que lo son, ya sea del pecado que lleva a la muerte, o de la obediencia que lleva a la justicia. ¹⁷ Pero gracias a Dios que, aunque antes eran esclavos del pecado, ya se han sometido de corazón a la enseñanza^[a] que les fue transmitida. ¹⁸ En efecto, habiendo sido liberados del pecado, ahora son ustedes esclavos de la justicia.

¹⁹ Hablo en términos humanos, por las limitaciones de su naturaleza humana. Antes ofrecían ustedes los miembros de su cuerpo para servir a la impureza, que lleva más y más a la maldad; ofrézcanlos ahora para servir a la justicia que lleva a la santidad. ²⁰ Cuando ustedes eran esclavos del pecado, estaban libres del dominio de la justicia. ²¹ ¿Qué fruto cosechaban entonces? ¡Cosas que ahora los avergüenzan y que conducen a la muerte! ²² Pero ahora que han sido liberados del pecado y se han puesto al servicio de Dios, cosechan la santidad que conduce a la vida eterna. ²³ Porque la paga del pecado es muerte, mientras que la dádiva de Dios es vida eterna en Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor.

[Jesus said to the twelve:] ⁴⁰“Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. ⁴¹Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; ⁴²and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.”

⁴⁰ »Quien los recibe a ustedes me recibe a mí; y quien me recibe a mí recibe al que me envió. ⁴¹ Cualquiera que recibe a un profeta por tratarse de un profeta recibirá recompensa de profeta; y el que recibe a un justo por tratarse de un justo recibirá recompensa de justo. ⁴² Y quien dé siquiera un vaso de agua fresca a uno de estos pequeños por tratarse de uno de mis discípulos, les aseguro que no perderá su recompensa».
