⁶When [the apostles] had come together, they asked [Jesus], “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?” ⁷He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. ⁸But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” ⁹When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. ¹⁰While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. ¹¹They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
  ¹²Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day’s journey away. ¹³When they had entered the city, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying, Peter, and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. ¹⁴All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as his brothers.

⁶ Entonces los que estaban reunidos con él le preguntaron:

—Señor, ¿es ahora cuando vas a restablecer el reino a Israel?

⁷ —No les toca a ustedes conocer la hora ni el momento determinados por la autoridad misma del Padre —les contestó Jesús—. ⁸ Pero, cuando venga el Espíritu Santo sobre ustedes, recibirán poder y serán mis testigos tanto en Jerusalén como en toda Judea y Samaria, y hasta los confines de la tierra.

⁹ Habiendo dicho esto, mientras ellos lo miraban, fue llevado a las alturas hasta que una nube lo ocultó de su vista. ¹⁰ Ellos se quedaron mirando fijamente al cielo mientras él se alejaba. De repente, se les acercaron dos hombres vestidos de blanco, que les dijeron:

¹¹ —Galileos, ¿qué hacen aquí mirando al cielo? Este mismo Jesús, que ha sido llevado de entre ustedes al cielo, vendrá otra vez de la misma manera que lo han visto irse.

¹² Entonces regresaron a Jerusalén desde el monte llamado de los Olivos, situado aproximadamente a un kilómetro de la ciudad. ¹³ Cuando llegaron, subieron al lugar donde se alojaban. Estaban allí Pedro, Juan, Jacobo, Andrés, Felipe, Tomás, Bartolomé, Mateo, Jacobo hijo de Alfeo, Simón el Zelote y Judas hijo de Jacobo. ¹⁴ Todos, en un mismo espíritu, se dedicaban a la oración, junto con las mujeres y con los hermanos de Jesús y su madre María.

¹Let God arise, and let God’s enemies be scattered;
  let those who hate God flee.
 ²As smoke is driven away, so you should drive them away;
  as the wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.
 ³But let the righteous be glad and rejoice before God;
  let them also be merry and joyful.
 ⁴Sing to God, sing praises to God’s name; exalt the one who rides the clouds;
  I Am is that name, rejoice before God! 
 ⁵In your holy habitation, O God,
  you are a father to orphans, defender of widows;
 ⁶you give the solitary a home and bring forth prisoners into freedom;
  but the rebels shall live in desert places.
 ⁷O God, when you went forth before your people,
  when you marched through the wilderness,
 ⁸the earth quaked, and the skies poured down rain, at the presence of God, the God of Sinai,
  at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
 ⁹You sent a bountiful rain, O God;
  you restored your inheritance when it languished.
 ¹⁰Your people found their home in it;
  in your goodness, O God, you have made provision for the poor. 
 ³²Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth;
  sing praises to the Lord.
 ³³You ride in the heavens, O God, in the ancient heavens;
  you send forth your voice, your mighty voice.
 ³⁴Ascribe power to God,
  whose majesty is over Israel; whose strength is in the skies.
 ³⁵How wonderful you are in your holy places, O God of Israel,
  giving strength and power to your people! Blessed be God! 

Que se levante Dios,
    que sean dispersados sus enemigos,
    que huyan de su presencia los que le odian.
² Que desaparezcan del todo,
    como humo que se disipa con el viento;
que perezcan ante Dios los impíos,
    como cera que se derrite en el fuego.
³ Pero que los justos se alegren y se regocijen;
    que estén felices y alegres delante de Dios.

⁴ Canten a Dios, canten salmos a su nombre;
    aclamen a quien cabalga por las estepas,
y regocíjense en su presencia.
    ¡Su nombre es el Señor!
⁵ Padre de los huérfanos y defensor de las viudas
    es Dios en su morada santa.
⁶ Dios da un hogar a los desamparados
    y libertad a los cautivos;
    los rebeldes habitarán en el desierto.

⁷ Cuando saliste, oh Dios, al frente de tu pueblo,
    cuando a través de los páramos marchaste, Selah
⁸ la tierra se estremeció,
    los cielos se vaciaron,
delante de Dios, el Dios de Sinaí,
    delante de Dios, el Dios de Israel.
⁹ Tú, oh Dios, diste abundantes lluvias;
    reanimaste a tu extenuada herencia.
¹⁰ Tu familia se estableció en la tierra

¹²Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. ¹³But rejoice insofar as you are sharing Christ’s sufferings, so that you may also be glad and shout for joy when his glory is revealed. ¹⁴If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory, which is the Spirit of God, is resting on you.

^5:6Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. ⁷Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. ⁸Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. ⁹Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. ¹⁰And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. ¹¹To him be the power forever and ever. Amen.

¹² Queridos hermanos, no se extrañen del fuego de la prueba que están soportando, como si fuera algo insólito. ¹³ Al contrario, alégrense de tener parte en los sufrimientos de Cristo, para que también sea inmensa su alegría cuando se revele la gloria de Cristo. ¹⁴ Dichosos ustedes si los insultan por causa del nombre de Cristo, porque el glorioso Espíritu de Dios reposa sobre ustedes.

⁶ Humíllense, pues, bajo la poderosa mano de Dios, para que él los exalte a su debido tiempo. ⁷ Depositen en él toda ansiedad, porque él cuida de ustedes.

⁸ Practiquen el dominio propio y manténganse alerta. Su enemigo el diablo ronda como león rugiente, buscando a quién devorar. ⁹ Resístanlo, manteniéndose firmes en la fe, sabiendo que sus hermanos en todo el mundo están soportando la misma clase de sufrimientos.

¹⁰ Y, después de que ustedes hayan sufrido un poco de tiempo, Dios mismo, el Dios de toda gracia que los llamó a su gloria eterna en Cristo, los restaurará y los hará fuertes, firmes y estables. ¹¹ A él sea el poder por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.

¹After Jesus had spoken these words [to his disciples], he looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you, ²since you have given him authority over all people, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. ³And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. ⁴I glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do. ⁵So now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had in your presence before the world existed.
  ⁶“I have made your name known to those whom you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. ⁷Now they know that everything you have given me is from you; ⁸for the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. ⁹I am asking on their behalf; I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you gave me, because they are yours. ¹⁰All mine are yours, and yours are mine; and I have been glorified in them. ¹¹And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one.”

Después de que Jesús dijo esto, dirigió la mirada al cielo y oró así:

«Padre, ha llegado la hora. Glorifica a tu Hijo, para que tu Hijo te glorifique a ti, ² ya que le has conferido autoridad sobre todo mortal para que él les conceda vida eterna a todos los que le has dado. ³ Y esta es la vida eterna: que te conozcan a ti, el único Dios verdadero, y a Jesucristo, a quien tú has enviado. ⁴ Yo te he glorificado en la tierra, y he llevado a cabo la obra que me encomendaste. ⁵ Y ahora, Padre, glorifícame en tu presencia con la gloria que tuve contigo antes de que el mundo existiera.

⁶ »A los que me diste del mundo les he revelado quién eres. Eran tuyos; tú me los diste y ellos han obedecido tu palabra. ⁷ Ahora saben que todo lo que me has dado viene de ti, ⁸ porque les he entregado las palabras que me diste, y ellos las aceptaron; saben con certeza que salí de ti, y han creído que tú me enviaste. ⁹ Ruego por ellos. No ruego por el mundo, sino por los que me has dado, porque son tuyos. ¹⁰ Todo lo que yo tengo es tuyo, y todo lo que tú tienes es mío; y por medio de ellos he sido glorificado. ¹¹ Ya no voy a estar por más tiempo en el mundo, pero ellos están todavía en el mundo, y yo vuelvo a ti.

»Padre santo, protégelos con el poder de tu nombre, el nombre que me diste, para que sean uno, lo mismo que nosotros.
