¹The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
  ²Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them: You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.
  ¹⁵You shall not render an unjust judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great: with justice you shall judge your neighbor. ¹⁶You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not profit by the blood of your neighbor: I am the Lord.
  ¹⁷You shall not hate in your heart anyone of your kin; you shall reprove your neighbor, or you will incur guilt yourself. ¹⁸You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

El Señor le ordenó a Moisés ² que hablara con toda la asamblea de los israelitas y les dijera: «Sean santos, porque yo, el Señor su Dios, soy santo.

¹⁵ »No perviertas la justicia, ni te muestres parcial en favor del pobre o del rico, sino juzga a todos con justicia.

¹⁶ »No andes difundiendo calumnias entre tu pueblo, ni expongas la vida de tu prójimo con falsos testimonios. Yo soy el Señor.

¹⁷ »No alimentes odios secretos contra tu hermano, sino reprende con franqueza a tu prójimo para que no sufras las consecuencias de su pecado.

¹⁸ »No seas vengativo con tu prójimo, ni le guardes rencor. Ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. Yo soy el Señor.

¹Happy are they who have not walked in the counsel of the wicked,
  nor lingered in the way of sinners, nor sat in the seats of the scornful!
 ²Their delight is in the law of the Lord,
  and they meditate on God’s teaching day and night. 
 ³They are like trees planted by streams of water, bearing fruit in due season, with leaves that do not wither;
  everything they do shall prosper.
 ⁴It is not so with the wicked;
  they are like chaff which the wind blows away.
 ⁵Therefore the wicked shall not stand upright when judgment comes,
  nor the sinner in the council of the righteous.
 ⁶For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
  but the way of the wicked shall be destroyed.

Dichoso el hombre
    que no sigue el consejo de los malvados,
    ni se detiene en la senda de los pecadores
    ni cultiva la amistad de los blasfemos,
² sino que en la ley del Señor se deleita,
    y día y noche medita en ella.
³ Es como el árbol
    plantado a la orilla de un río
que, cuando llega su tiempo, da fruto
    y sus hojas jamás se marchitan.
    ¡Todo cuanto hace prospera!

⁴ En cambio, los malvados
    son como paja arrastrada por el viento.
⁵ Por eso no se sostendrán los malvados en el juicio,
    ni los pecadores en la asamblea de los justos.

⁶ Porque el Señor cuida el camino de los justos,
    mas la senda de los malos lleva a la perdición.

¹You yourselves know, brothers and sisters, that our coming to you was not in vain, ²but though we had already suffered and been shamefully mistreated at Philippi, as you know, we had courage in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in spite of great opposition. ³For our appeal does not spring from deceit or impure motives or trickery, ⁴but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the message of the gospel, even so we speak, not to please mortals, but to please God who tests our hearts. ⁵As you know and as God is our witness, we never came with words of flattery or with a pretext for greed; ⁶nor did we seek praise from mortals, whether from you or from others, ⁷though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, like a nurse tenderly caring for her own children. ⁸So deeply do we care for you that we are determined to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you have become very dear to us.

Hermanos, bien saben que nuestra visita a ustedes no fue un fracaso. ² Y saben también que, a pesar de las aflicciones e insultos que antes sufrimos en Filipos, cobramos confianza en nuestro Dios y nos atrevimos a comunicarles el evangelio en medio de una gran lucha. ³ Nuestra exhortación no se origina en el error ni en malas intenciones, ni procura engañar a nadie. ⁴ Al contrario, hablamos como hombres a quienes Dios aprobó y les confió el evangelio: no tratamos de agradar a la gente, sino a Dios, que examina nuestro corazón. ⁵ Como saben, nunca hemos recurrido a las adulaciones ni a las excusas para obtener dinero; Dios es testigo. ⁶ Tampoco hemos buscado honores de nadie; ni de ustedes ni de otros. ⁷ Aunque como apóstoles de Cristo hubiéramos podido ser exigentes con ustedes, los tratamos con delicadeza.^[a] Como una madre^[b] que amamanta y cuida a sus hijos, ⁸ así nosotros, por el cariño que les tenemos, nos deleitamos en compartir con ustedes no solo el evangelio de Dios, sino también nuestra vida. ¡Tanto llegamos a quererlos!

³⁴When the Pharisees heard that [Jesus] had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, ³⁵and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. ³⁶“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” ³⁷He said to him, “ “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ ³⁸This is the greatest and first commandment. ³⁹And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ⁴⁰On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
  ⁴¹Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them this question: ⁴²“What do you think of the Messiah? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “The son of David.” ⁴³He said to them, “How is it then that David by the Spirit calls him Lord, saying,
 ⁴⁴‘The Lord said to my Lord,
 “Sit at my right hand,
  until I put your enemies under your feet”’?
⁴⁵If David thus calls him Lord, how can he be his son?” ⁴⁶No one was able to give him an answer, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more questions.

³⁴ Los fariseos se reunieron al oír que Jesús había hecho callar a los saduceos. ³⁵ Uno de ellos, experto en la ley, le tendió una trampa con esta pregunta:

³⁶ —Maestro, ¿cuál es el mandamiento más importante de la ley?

³⁷ —“Ama al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con todo tu ser y con toda tu mente” —le respondió Jesús—. ³⁸ Este es el primero y el más importante de los mandamientos. ³⁹ El segundo se parece a este: “Ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo”. ⁴⁰ De estos dos mandamientos dependen toda la ley y los profetas.

⁴¹ Mientras estaban reunidos los fariseos, Jesús les preguntó:

⁴² —¿Qué piensan ustedes acerca del Cristo? ¿De quién es hijo?

—De David —le respondieron ellos.

⁴³ —Entonces, ¿cómo es que David, hablando por el Espíritu, lo llama “Señor”? Él afirma:

⁴⁴ »“Dijo el Señor a mi Señor:
    ‘Siéntate a mi derecha,
hasta que ponga a tus enemigos
    debajo de tus pies’ ”.

⁴⁵ Si David lo llama “Señor”, ¿cómo puede entonces ser su hijo?»

⁴⁶ Nadie pudo responderle ni una sola palabra, y desde ese día ninguno se atrevía a hacerle más preguntas.
