¹⁸The Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” ¹⁹So out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. ²⁰The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field; but for the man there was not found a helper as his partner. ²¹So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. ²²And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. ²³Then the man said,
 “This at last is bone of my bones
  and flesh of my flesh;
 this one shall be called Woman,
  for out of Man this one was taken.”
²⁴Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh.

¹⁸ Luego Dios el Señor dijo: «No es bueno que el hombre esté solo. Voy a hacerle una ayuda adecuada». ¹⁹ Entonces Dios el Señor formó de la tierra toda ave del cielo y todo animal del campo, y se los llevó al hombre para ver qué nombre les pondría. El hombre les puso nombre a todos los seres vivos, y con ese nombre se les conoce. ²⁰ Así el hombre fue poniéndoles nombre a todos los animales domésticos, a todas las aves del cielo y a todos los animales del campo. Sin embargo, no se encontró entre ellos la ayuda adecuada para el hombre.

²¹ Entonces Dios el Señor hizo que el hombre cayera en un sueño profundo y, mientras este dormía, le sacó una costilla y le cerró la herida. ²² De la costilla que le había quitado al hombre, Dios el Señor hizo una mujer y se la presentó al hombre, ²³ el cual exclamó:

«Esta sí es hueso de mis huesos
    y carne de mi carne.
Se llamará “mujer”
    porque del hombre fue sacada».

²⁴ Por eso el hombre deja a su padre y a su madre, y se une a su mujer, y los dos se funden en un solo ser.

¹O Lord our Lord,
  how majestic is your name in all the earth!
 ²you whose glory is chanted above the heavens out of the mouths of infants and children;
  you have set up a fortress against your enemies, to silence the foe and avenger.
 ³When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,
  the moon and the stars you have set in their courses,
 ⁴what are mere mortals that you should be mindful of them,
  human beings that you should care for them? 
 ⁵Yet you have made them little less than divine;
  with glory and honor you crown them.
 ⁶You have made them rule over the works of your hands;
  you have put all things under their feet:
 ⁷all  flocks and cattle,
  even the wild beasts of the field,
 ⁸the birds of the air, the fish of the sea,
  and whatever passes along the paths of the sea.
 ⁹O Lord our Lord,
  how majestic is your name in all the earth! 

Oh Señor, Soberano nuestro,
    ¡qué imponente es tu nombre en toda la tierra!
    ¡Has puesto tu gloria sobre los cielos!

² Por causa de tus adversarios
    has hecho que brote la alabanza
de labios de los pequeñitos y de los niños de pecho,
    para silenciar al enemigo y al rebelde.

³ Cuando contemplo tus cielos,
    obra de tus dedos,
la luna y las estrellas que allí fijaste,
⁴ me pregunto:
    «¿Qué es el hombre, para que en él pienses?
    ¿Qué es el ser humano, para que lo tomes en cuenta?»
⁵ Pues lo hiciste poco menos que Dios,
    y lo coronaste de gloria y de honra:
⁶ lo entronizaste sobre la obra de tus manos,
    todo lo sometiste a su dominio;
⁷ todas las ovejas, todos los bueyes,
    todos los animales del campo,
⁸ las aves del cielo, los peces del mar,
    y todo lo que surca los senderos del mar.

⁹ Oh Señor, Soberano nuestro,
    ¡qué imponente es tu nombre en toda la tierra!

¹Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, ²but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds. ³He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, ⁴having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
 ^2:5Now God did not subject the coming world, about which we are speaking, to angels. ⁶But someone has testified somewhere,
 “What are human beings that you are mindful of them,
  or mortals, that you care for them?
 ⁷You have made them for a little while lower than the angels;
  you have crowned them with glory and honor,
  ⁸subjecting all things under their feet.”
Now in subjecting all things to them, God left nothing outside their control. As it is, we do not yet see everything in subjection to them,⁹but we do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
  ¹⁰It was fitting that God, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many children to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferings. ¹¹For the one who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one Father. For this reason Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters, ¹²saying,
 “I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters,
  in the midst of the congregation I will praise you.”

Dios, que muchas veces y de varias maneras habló a nuestros antepasados en otras épocas por medio de los profetas, ² en estos días finales nos ha hablado por medio de su Hijo. A este lo designó heredero de todo, y por medio de él hizo el universo. ³ El Hijo es el resplandor de la gloria de Dios, la fiel imagen de lo que él es, y el que sostiene todas las cosas con su palabra poderosa. Después de llevar a cabo la purificación de los pecados, se sentó a la derecha de la Majestad en las alturas. ⁴ Así llegó a ser superior a los ángeles en la misma medida en que el nombre que ha heredado supera en excelencia al de ellos.

⁵ Dios no puso bajo el dominio de los ángeles el mundo venidero del que estamos hablando. ⁶ Como alguien ha atestiguado en algún lugar:

«¿Qué es el hombre, para que en él pienses?
    ¿Qué es el ser humano, para que lo tomes en cuenta?
⁷ Lo hiciste un poco menor que los ángeles,
    y lo coronaste de gloria y de honra;
⁸     ¡todo lo sometiste a su dominio!»

Si Dios puso bajo él todas las cosas, entonces no hay nada que no le esté sujeto. Ahora bien, es cierto que todavía no vemos que todo le esté sujeto. ⁹ Sin embargo, vemos a Jesús, que fue hecho un poco inferior a los ángeles, coronado de gloria y honra por haber padecido la muerte. Así, por la gracia de Dios, la muerte que él sufrió resulta en beneficio de todos.

¹⁰ En efecto, a fin de llevar a muchos hijos a la gloria, convenía que Dios, para quien y por medio de quien todo existe, perfeccionara mediante el sufrimiento al autor de la salvación de ellos. ¹¹ Tanto el que santifica como los que son santificados tienen un mismo origen, por lo cual Jesús no se avergüenza de llamarlos hermanos, ¹² cuando dice:

«Proclamaré tu nombre a mis hermanos;
    en medio de la congregación te alabaré».

²Some Pharisees came, and to test [Jesus] they asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” ³He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” ⁴They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her.” ⁵But Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote this commandment for you. ⁶But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ⁷‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, ⁸and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. ⁹Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
  ¹⁰Then in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. ¹¹He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her; ¹²and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

  ¹³People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them. ¹⁴But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. ¹⁵Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.” ¹⁶And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.

² En eso, unos fariseos se le acercaron y, para ponerlo a prueba, le preguntaron:

—¿Está permitido que un hombre se divorcie de su esposa?

³ —¿Qué les mandó Moisés? —replicó Jesús.

⁴ —Moisés permitió que un hombre le escribiera un certificado de divorcio y la despidiera —contestaron ellos.

⁵ —Esa ley la escribió Moisés para ustedes por lo obstinados que son —aclaró Jesús—. ⁶ Pero al principio de la creación Dios “los hizo hombre y mujer”. ⁷ “Por eso dejará el hombre a su padre y a su madre, y se unirá a su esposa, ⁸ y los dos llegarán a ser un solo cuerpo”. Así que ya no son dos, sino uno solo. ⁹ Por tanto, lo que Dios ha unido, que no lo separe el hombre.

¹⁰ Vueltos a casa, los discípulos le preguntaron a Jesús sobre este asunto.

¹¹ —El que se divorcia de su esposa y se casa con otra comete adulterio contra la primera —respondió—. ¹² Y, si la mujer se divorcia de su esposo y se casa con otro, comete adulterio.

¹³ Empezaron a llevarle niños a Jesús para que los tocara, pero los discípulos reprendían a quienes los llevaban. ¹⁴ Cuando Jesús se dio cuenta, se indignó y les dijo: «Dejen que los niños vengan a mí, y no se lo impidan, porque el reino de Dios es de quienes son como ellos. ¹⁵ Les aseguro que el que no reciba el reino de Dios como un niño de ninguna manera entrará en él». ¹⁶ Y después de abrazarlos, los bendecía poniendo las manos sobre ellos.
